Gustav Andreen was the fourth president of Augustana College as well as its longest-serving president, having held office from 1901 to 1935. Andreen was the first Augustana president to be born in the United States, to have graduated from Augustana, and to serve more than 30 years. The Augustana College academic papers and theses, 1877-2024 and undated, was assembled by Special Collections staff for the purpose of keeping academic and scholarly works by Augustana faculty and students together. The collection contains academic papers, master's theses, sermons, speeches, undergraduate papers submitted for academic credit, prize winning papers, independent projects, and proceedings of the annual Celebration of Learning.

Abstract
Conrad Bergendoff was the fifth president of Augustana College. Bergendoff was born in rural Nebraska in 1895. He attended Augustana College, and was a member of the class of 1915. He also earned a divinity degree from Augustana Seminary. After several years Bergendoff returned to the seminary as the dean, then as the president of the seminary and the college in 1935. After the seminary split from the college in 1948, Bergendoff remained the president of the college for fourteen more years....

Carl Leland Horberg was a former geology professor at Augustana College. Horberg was born in Cambridge, Illinois, in 1910. He was the first student to graduate from the newly formed department of geology in 1932. He continued his education, receiving a doctorate from the University of Chicago, and also completed many important studies on the Mississippi Valley area.
